Tree Fertilization

Are you breaking your trees’ natural cycle?

Nature’s nutrient cycle
Trees remove large quantities of nutrients from the soil each year, utilizing them for growth and development. In a forest setting, trees have a natural nutrient cycle in which the nutrients they remove from the soil are returned when leaves, twigs and debris fall to the ground and decompose. This natural cycle is self-sustaining, and has allowed forest trees to grow large and healthy for centuries. In our urban environments, the natural nutrient cycle is broken, as the organic forest floor has typically been replaced by turf grass. Falling leaves, twigs and fruit are quickly removed to maintain a healthy lawn. Competition with lawns and other underlying plants further deplete the nutrients from our soils. If this weren't enough, our trees’ roots are confined by smaller spaces. Roads, driveways, patios and houses all limit the area urban trees have to find nutrients. Urban trees grow to be less healthy and live much shorter lives than those in the forest.

So what can you do?

In turf grass areas, we do not recommend that you leave the debris that falls from your trees, as it will smother your grass.

We recommend the following:

1.) Have us professionally fertilize your trees and shrubs - Fertilizing at least once a year helps to compensate for the broken nutrient cycle, depleted soils and confined root areas. We use a liquid, controlled release mineral fertilizer that slowly releases nutrients over many seasons, the way Mother Nature intended. Our fertilizers are soil-injected below the grass roots, ensuring that the lawn does not interfere with the fertilization. Providing proper nutrition ensures that your trees have the nutrients needed to build defenses against disease, insects and unfavorable weather.

2.) Mulch under all your trees and shrubs - Organic mulches help insulate the roots, conserve moisture and regulate soil temperatures. As the mulch decomposes, it adds nutrients to the soil, similar to the forest floor.

Fertilization is one of the most important treatments for maintaining the health of urban trees & shrubs.

Benefits Of Deep Root Fertilization:

Replenishes depleted soil nutrients

IMproves root development and health

increases the plant's resistance to drought

Improves flowering and leaf color

Improves the plant's resistance to insects and disease

Aerates soil at injection site

Liquid pressurized soil injections ensure that the nutrients get below the grass roots
